An illustrator for the story

I'm an Scottish illustrator, designer and printmaker working in the intersection of publishing, editorial, and visual storytelling.

Trained at Falmouth University, I’ve spent the past eight years building a practice rooted in storytelling imagery, rich painterly textures, and a curious observation of people and place. I work with publishers, magazines, and creative studios on projects that range from picture books to long-form journalism.

The process

Every project is a collaboration. Here's how we typically work together.

01

Brief & Discovery

We discuss your project, timeline, budget, and what the illustration needs to do. I ask a lot of questions.

02

Sketches

Three rough sketch directions that explore different visual approaches to your brief. We pick one together.

03

Refined Rough

A tightened drawing with explored colour palettes. You can request one round of revisions at this stage.

04

Final Artwork

The finished piece, delivered in all formats you need, two rounds of type revisions at this stage (if applicable) made into print-ready files.

05

Delivery & Rights

Clear licensing, final files, and an archive of work-in-progress sketches for your records.

What collaborators say

I loved working with Olive, she was amazing! She came into the project with great ideas and vision of her own based on the brief, but was then also very attuned and responsive to any thoughts and ideas I had as we went along. She stayed professional and flexible throughout the process, communicating with me every step of the way and even making some last minute tweaks that put the finished product over the top!

Olive was wonderful to work with. She has great artistic vision and is prompt and professional. I would gladly work with her again!

Matt M.Author

Olive was a pleasure to work with. She brought the force of her creativity to the complex project that I brought to her and really brought it to life. She not only completed the cover of the book (physical, ebook, and audio book), but also did over 13 illustrations in both black and white and color, as well as formatted pages of the book with beautiful drawings, all delivered by the deadline we set. Her work brought the book to life.
